DAMASCUS – The Syrian rebel group said early Sunday morning that they have liberated Syria from Bashar al-Assad, who ruled the country for a long time, after entering the capital city of Damascus.

The reports say that Bashar Assad has fled the country and it is not known where the plane took him from the capital last night.

The Tahrir al-Sham Front announced early in the morning that they had taken over the national radio and television station in Syria. Gunfire was heard inside the capital.

News from the group that overthrew the regime of Bashar Assad in the Liberation Front of Syria, they said. “We have freed Bashar al-Assad from the country.”

They added that the darkness has ended and a new era has begun. People who fled the country and those who were displaced called to return to the country.

They also said that they released the prisoners who were imprisoned in the main prisons in Syria, which were known for torturing the opposition and the unlawful killing of some people according to this group.

Reports say that people started to celebrate in Ummayad Square in the center of Damascus, where several ministries such as the Ministry of Defense and the headquarters of the army are located.

The Prime Minister of Syria, Mohamed Gazi Jalali, said in a statement this morning that the government is ready to hand over the government offices to the opposition in a peaceful manner, and he is ready to help them do so.

This means that 54 years of the Assad family’s rule in Syria has come to an end today.
